New Jersey — Ravinder Singh Bhalla who is the Mayor of Hoboken, New Jersey, a city right across the river from New York City is making a huge bet on defeating the status-quo in his state. He is joined by current House Representative and candidate for U.S. Congress to show the strength of Asian American and Pacific Islanders in the Garden State.
Bernie Sanders launched his campaign by saying, Not Me Us. What he meant that movements for progressive change go beyond him and are for the next generation of Americans to carry forward. While Nikki Haley’s campaign is on its last embers on the Republican side, it’s clear that the real political revolution is happening in the war against establishment Democrats in New Jersey.
Mayor Bhalla
Since the announcment of Mayor Bhalla’s run for U.S. House, he has received an outpouring of support from the Sikh American community. Despite the rapidly growing population of Sikhs in the United States, political representation lags behind, and the only other member of Congress coming from the community was over 60 years ago. Since Judge Dalip Singh Sound served California’s 29th Congressional District between 1957–1963, there have been many attempts but never enough successful bids that have resulted in victory for the Sikh American community.
